Professor Percy Sepeng, PhD, serves as the Dean of Students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, leveraging his extensive background in academic leadership, quality assurance, and student advocacy. A highly accomplished scholar, Prof. Sepeng holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and has completed all modules for the Master in Business Leadership (MBL) from UNISA’s Graduate School of Leadership. Currently, he is furthering his expertise by pursuing a Law Degree. In 2018, he delivered a Professorial Inaugural Lecture, reinforcing his commitment to advancing mathematics education in South Africa. Prof. Sepeng’s professional journey spans prestigious roles across South African higher education institutions. He has held advisory and directorial positions in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal at Central University of Technology, including roles as Head of Institutional Renewal & Transformation and Council Member representing Senate. Additionally, he served as Acting Head of the School of Education, Head of Mathematics, Science & Business Education, and Full Professor of Mathematics Education at Tshwane University of Technology; a Director of School for Teacher Education and Training at North-West University. His prior appointments also include academic leadership roles at UNISA, Wits University, and Nelson Mandela University, where he contributed significantly to curriculum development, quality assurance, and research in mathematics and science education. In his role at UKZN, Prof. Sepeng is instrumental in enhancing the student experience, focusing on inclusivity, wellness, and addressing critical issues such as gender-based violence on campus. His strategic initiatives include integrating sports programs and services for differently-abled students under a unified Student Affairs structure and driving the UKZN Student Experience Strategy 2023-2027.
